The girls' cricket pathway into UK schools

The global game has seen significant impetus from a professional approach to women's cricket. Never before have the opportunities existed for young females — and UK independent schools are where many of those journeys now begin.

Why now is the moment for girls

The fastest-growing game in UK schools

Girls' cricket has expanded faster than any other sport in UK independent schools. Dedicated squads, specialist coaches, indoor centres and full fixture lists now sit alongside the boys' programme rather than behind it.

A genuine professional horizon

Professional domestic contracts, The Hundred and international pathways mean a talented girl leaving school today has options that simply did not exist a decade ago. Schools are building programmes with that in mind.

Awards on the same terms

Sport, all-rounder and academic scholarships are open to girls at the schools we work with, and are frequently combined with means-tested support. Selection rests on academic suitability as well as playing standard.

Boarding built for daughters

We only introduce families to schools whose girls' boarding houses have a strong track record with international pupils — pastoral care, food, faith provision and holiday arrangements all matter as much as the cricket.

The pathway, step by step

From first enquiry to first term at school, here is how Criced guides families through the girls' cricket pathway.

  1. 1

    Introduce your daughter

Tell us her age, current school, cricket experience and the countries you would consider. It takes less than five minutes and we reply personally.

  2. 2

Review her playing and academic profile

We verify match footage, recent school reports, statistics and a coach reference, then build a profile UK admissions and cricket directors trust.

  3. 3

    Match to the right schools

We shortlist schools whose academic level, girls' cricket programme, boarding culture and fee structure genuinely fit your family — not just the famous names.

  4. 4

    Arrange trials and assessments

We book trials, coach conversations and entrance assessments — in the UK or remotely — and prepare your daughter for what schools expect.

  5. 5

Secure the offer and prepare for departure

We help you compare offers and awards, then guide visas, guardianship, travel and arrival so the first term starts with confidence.

Questions parents of daughters ask

Are cricket scholarships available for girls at UK schools?

Yes. UK independent schools award sport and all-rounder scholarships to girls on the same basis as boys, often alongside means-tested bursaries. Awards typically cover a percentage of fees and require a sound academic record.

What standard does my daughter need to reach?

Schools look for evidence of genuine competitive cricket — age-group representative selection, club or academy cricket, or a strong school first XI record — plus the attitude to train seriously all year round.

Which entry points work best for girls?

11+, 13+ and 16+ are all viable. Many international girls join at 13+ to develop across five years, or at 16+ for Sixth Form where cricket programmes and university preparation run together.

Can girls play mixed or boys' cricket at school?

At younger ages many schools still run mixed sides, and strong players often train with the boys' squads. From 13+ upwards most schools we work with field dedicated girls' teams.
